As a photographer, there are moments when a project comes along that truly sparks your creativity, and this Tortured Poets styled shoot was one of those rare occasions. Inspired by the raw drama and emotion of Taylor Swift’s latest album and her haunting Victorian-era Fortnight music video, I knew we were about to create something visually unforgettable. With a fusion of modern and vintage elements, the mood was set—deep reds, moody greys, dramatic blacks, and crisp whites all coming together under the mesmerizing backdrop of Gallery Studios in Calgary. I couldn’t wait to begin capturing this beautiful story through my lens. The team from this shoot was so excited to have it featured on Green Wedding Shoes.

The ceremony scene was pure magic—everything from the floating paper to the deep emotional charge reminded me of the fragility and intensity of love. Inspired by Taylor Swift’s video, the paper floating in mid-air, symbolized the chaotic beauty of love and heartbreak. Every shot I took felt like I was encapsulating the profound heartache and passion of a tortured poet, lost in the depths of emotion.

One of my favorite moments was capturing Nicole, our stunning bride, who not only wore the most dramatic black tulle gown (designed and created by herself!) but completely embodied the role of a romantic, passionate soul. The moody black backdrop added such a layer of depth to her presence, while the flawless makeup by Wildflower Artistry and the striking bouquet by Hue Florals elevated the scene to pure perfection.

The reception setup was equally enchanting—a sophisticated blend of modern sleekness and vintage charm. I was in photographer heaven as I snapped away at the black charlie chairs surrounding the soft grey linen table. The vintage chargers and ornate cocktail coupes had such a timeless elegance, and the black candles paired with lush florals set the stage for an opulent experience. There were so many exquisite details I couldn't wait to capture, like the black ribbons on the glassware and the elegant calligraphy on each guest’s name.

The hand-lettered mirror with Taylor Swift’s lyrics was the ultimate poetic touch, and as a photographer, it was a dream to frame that scene with the soft lighting and intricate details surrounding it. Every shot I took felt like a perfect still from a Victorian love story.

Kenzie May Co’s stationery suite was the perfect complement to the whole aesthetic, with handmade paper invitations adorned with pearls and black wax seals—each piece looked like it belonged in a timeless love letter. The vintage typewriter and the show-stopping cake from Bake My Day were the final touches that brought everything to life, adding a layer of nostalgia and dramatic flair to the shoot.

It was a true privilege to work with an incredibly talented vendor team to bring this vision to life. The combination of dramatic lighting, exquisite styling, and raw emotion made this shoot an unforgettable experience.
