Urban Engagement Session - Les & Shif
Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved this East Village engagement session with L & S! While many couples tend to gravitate toward mountain or park settings for their engagement photos, these two chose something a bit different: an urban landscape. I couldn’t be more thrilled because I absolutely jump at the chance to photograph couples in an urban environment. There's something so unique and dynamic about capturing love in the midst of city streets, modern architecture, and vibrant urban energy.
L & S are not just any couple – they’re old working friends of mine, and I’m beyond honored that they asked me to capture their engagement. It means so much to me when people I know personally trust me with such an important moment in their lives. There's a special kind of connection when you get to work with people you’ve known for years, and it’s even more meaningful to capture those big milestones for them.
L & S share a truly beautiful and deep love. It’s one of those relationships that you can just feel when you’re around them. The way they support each other, laugh together, and just enjoy each other's company is so apparent. It only took a few minutes with them to see how strong their connection is. Their engagement session was more than just a photoshoot – it was a celebration of their relationship.
East Village Engagement Session
East Village in Calgary is an absolute playground for engagement photos. There’s so much variety – modern architecture, picturesque streets, hidden gems – it’s the perfect blend of urban charm. We took a relaxed stroll around the area, making spontaneous stops at locations that spoke to us. Every corner seemed to offer a new perspective, and it felt like we were constantly discovering new spots to explore together.
Our first stop was the Central Library, which is such an iconic and striking building. The modern, angular design of the library is a photographer’s dream – bold lines, sharp angles, and plenty of space to capture dramatic shots. It was the perfect spot to start the session. From there, we headed over to the East Village and the St. Patrick's Island bridge, which offered a beautiful contrast of nature and city in the background. As the sun started to set, we wrapped up the session at the City Hall building, just as the last rays of light began to fade.
Locations Are Part of Your Story
Choosing the right location for your engagement session is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. A location isn’t just a backdrop – it’s part of your story. I absolutely love when couples choose locations that reflect who they are and what’s meaningful to them. L & S’s session was the perfect example of this. The Central Library is a place that holds significance for them, and it was such a fun and unique place to shoot. The stunning architecture of the library truly complements the couple’s vibrant and thoughtful energy.
Another location that held sentimental value for them was the Simmons building, which was one of the first places they went to on a date. How special is that? When they look back on these photos in the years to come, they won’t just remember their engagement session – they’ll remember the meaningful moments from their past, too. That’s what capturing life’s milestones is all about: creating timeless memories that tell the story of who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re headed.
