This beautiful spring Nose Hill family session holds a special place in my heart, and I’m beyond excited to share it with all of you. It’s always such an honor when another photographer trusts me to photograph their family. I never take that trust lightly, and this session was no exception. Chelsea Broda, an incredibly talented photographer, is not only someone I deeply admire but also a friend I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with over Instagram a few years ago. From the start, I’ve been inspired by her work, which, much like mine, leans toward dark and moody tones. Our paths first crossed in person during a traveling dress project, and it was such a full-circle moment to be asked to capture her family on camera.

Chelsea’s work speaks volumes, and I felt so lucky to be behind the lens for her family’s session. We chose to photograph her family at Nose Hill Park, which is one of my absolute favorite locations in the city. This place never disappoints, offering sweeping views and stunning skies – and this evening was no different. Despite the wind, which always presents its challenges, we were gifted with a gorgeous, moody sky that perfectly matched the vibe of the session.

Telling Your Unique Story

When photographing a family, my goal is always to capture their unique love story, and this session was all about that. Chelsea’s boys are just so sweet and full of love for each other – you could see it in every interaction between them. The bond they share is beautiful, and it was a joy to witness. They needed very little prompting from me – their natural affection for each other made my job easy. We spent the whole hour running through tall grass, hugging, laughing, and simply enjoying each other's company. The wind was a bit of a challenge, but it ended up adding such a dreamy, dynamic element to the photos – the movement it created in their hair and clothes added an organic flow that I absolutely loved.

What made this session even more special was how effortless it all felt. The playfulness and warmth between this family was so real, and that’s exactly what I wanted to capture. These are the moments I truly treasure – the quiet tenderness, the laughter, and the joy of being together. It’s the kind of family connection that really shines through in the photos and tells their story in such a meaningful way.

Wardrobe Matters

The right wardrobe can make all the difference in the final images, and it’s something I always make sure to help my clients with. What you wear in your session can really elevate the photos, helping tell your story in a way that feels true to who you are as a family. I knew Chelsea, being a photographer herself, would absolutely nail the wardrobe, and she did not disappoint. She did an incredible job coordinating their outfits, bringing together a beautiful neutral palette with subtle pops of color. Her choice of a gorgeous red dress for herself was just perfect – the shade was vibrant yet timeless, adding an elegant touch to the entire session.

For kids, I’m always a fan of stores like Old Navy, Zara, and H&M. They have a fantastic selection of stylish yet comfortable outfits for little ones. And for moms and dads, these stores also offer a great range of options that are both fashionable and functional. When you look great, you feel great, and it shows in the photos. Chelsea’s thoughtful choices allowed the entire family to look coordinated without feeling too “matchy-matchy,” which is always the goal!
